How do you sell an anime about making anime? By making it have a great story and characters. At it’s core, Shirobako is comedy-drama, but for many 20-somethings, the series is one of the most relatable shows around. Whether you are struggling to break into the animation industry or looking for your first job, this is a series that will hit home while making you laugh.
2. Your Lie in April
Romantic-dramas are a dime a dozen. What makes Your Lie in April so good is the writing. The characters are well done, the drama is great, and the music is magical. You might even shed a tear or two when it ends.
3. Death Parade
Unique is the only word to describe Death Parade. Before souls can move on, they must face judgment. It’s a simple setup, but each episode packs enough twists and emotional pull to keep the series from feeling repetitive. Plus, the intro is so catchy!
4. Assassination Classroom
Fun and quirky are the only words to describe Assassination Classroom. The basic rundown is that a class of high schoolers must kill their teacher in a year, or he’ll destroy the earth. The comedy is fast paced and the animation is top notch, which sets the series above most other shonens that have came out so far this year.
5. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!
Teenage love, social conformity, and self-acceptance are some heavy themes for a rom-com to tackle. Luckily, OreGairu handles things really well. Fans and non-fans of the genre don’t want to miss out on this, even if they skipped the first season.
6. Plastic Memories
Plastic Memories is better than the sum of its parts. The story is generic, you can guess the ending from the first episode, and most of the characters are as deep as the kiddie pool. But there is certain charm to Plastic Memories that will keep you coming back for more, especially if you are a romance fan.
